High Speed Chase Begins in Bradford PA.

Today, at around 11:30 am, a high speed chase occurred in Bradford PA.

The chase began on West Washington Street, when a state trooper tried to stop a motorcycle.  The motorcycle had 2 occupants.

The bike fled, and headed West on West Washington Street, and then turned onto Dorothy Lane.

The bike then turned west onto West Corydon, up Niles Hollow, and onto Songbird Lane, where the bike was reported to have wrecked, but both riders got back on the bike and fled.

The bike and riders were last seen on Route 770, heading toward Warren PA.

Oil Spill on Hedgehog Lane, Bradford PA

At around 11:00 am, an oil spill was reported on Hedgehog Lane.

Crews were called for a HAZMAT response to the area of 158 Hedgehog Lane to contain the spill.  It was reported that a ditch along the road was filled with crude oil.

Upon arriving, the Bradford Township FD Chief, found the source of the spill, and shut off the valve.

The road was then completely shut down, from West Washington, to the top of the hill.

Approximately 1,500 gallons of crude oil was spilled.  Police believe that the valve was opened purposely by an unknown actor, but are not sure yet.

The Red Cross, Mckean County Emergency Management, Bradford Township PD and FD, Corydon Township FD, and State Rep Marty Causer have all been on the scene.

Update

At 3:24 pm, tones were sounded for Bradford Township, Corydon Township, and Derrick City FD’s, to send all available manpower to the scene to assist in the cleanup.

Had to Go, but not too Bright

At 10:27 pm, a Bradford City Police officer reported that he was going to be out of his car.

He reported that he would be out with an intoxicated male that he witnessed urinating in public.

The man was found outside of the Riddell House, on Main Street in Bradford.

A few minutes later, the officer requested that another officer secure the “Sally Port”, and transported the man to the City Station lock-up.

Breaking Glass Reported

At 10:03 pm, Bradford City Police were flagged down and a person breaking glass was reported.

City Police had just left 101 Congress Street for a loud music complaint, when an individual near that address tipped them off to a person possibly breaking glass.

Police noted a male named Corry Robinson as being involved, and ran his name through the National Crime Information Center to see if he had any warrants. It is unknown at this if this man actually broke any glass.

Police reported a residence in the area with a broken window, and went to investigate.

The broken window was reported to be at 61 Congress Street.  The resident at that address was found, and reported that the window had not been broken, that it had been broken for some time.

Police left the area at 10:25 pm, noting that they had not found any broken glass, but a witness had heard a disturbance, and witnessed 2 males running back into a house.

Music is too Loud

At 9:49 pm, a Bradford resident called 911 to report loud music.

The Congress Street resident said that loud music was coming from 101 Congress Street, in the rear apartment.

Police arrived on scene, and didn’t hear any music, but was directed to the house by the caller.  They spoke with the residents and asked them to keep the music down.

Fire in Duke Center

At 9:38 pm, multiple tones were sounded for a fire in Duke Center PA.

The fire was reported to be at 659 Main Street.

The caller reported that the fire was located in an outside building, that was not attached to a residential building.  The caller stated that they were using the structure for making maple syrup.

Otto Township, Derrick City, Eldred Township, Eldred Borough, and Rew FD’s were all dispatched to the scene, along with Otto Township Ambulance for fire standby.

Fire Under Control

At 9:52 pm, Chief 9 reported that the fire was under control, and that all responding units should standby at their current locations, with the exception of the Otto Township units that were already on scene.

Recall

All of the units responding were told that they could return to their quarters at 9:53 pm.

H. Donald Sestina, 76, of Emporium PA

H. Donald Sestina, 76, of 748 Sizerville Rd., Emporium died at Presbyterian-Univ. Hosp. UPMC, Pittsburgh on Tuesday (March 9, 2010) night following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jul 5, 1933 in Emporium a son of the late Andrew and Charlotte Keeler Sestina.
On June 29, 1957 in St. Mark Cathlolic Church he married Mary Jo Glasl Sestina, who Survives.
Mr. Sestina graduated from Cameron County High School and received a Bachelor Degree in finance from Lycoming College. He was owner and agent at the former Sestina Insurance Agency for many years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Emporium where he served as an Elder of the Church. He was a member of the Knights Templar, an international philanthropic order affiliated with Freemasonry. He served as a senior accountant at Sylvania, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital, North Central Regional Planning and Development Commission, Dickenson Mental Health, Citizens Trust Co. and Banc Corp. Forbes magazine has released it’s annual list of the world’s richest people.  For the second time since 1995, Bill Gates was pushed out of the top slot.

This year, Carlos Slim Helu, won that honor, with a net worth of $53.5 billion.

Joyce E. Moore, of Olean NY

Joyce Elaine Moore of 824 S. Union Street Branch Extension, Olean, died Wednesday (March 10, 2010) at her home.

Born February 26, 1940 in West Hickory, PA, she was the daughter of Elliot E. and Edith R. Fanning Hurd.  On October 25, 1958 at the Christ United Methodist Church in Olean she married Maynard Nelson Moore, who predeceased her on October 9, 2002.

Mrs. Moore was a devoted housewife and mother.  She enjoyed sewing, painting, collecting dolls and angels.  Read the rest of this entry »

Katherine Fern Chouinard

Katherine Fern Chouinard of 350 Front St. Aspen Tower died Tuesday (March 9, 2010) in the Olean General Hospital.

Born August 25, 1923 in Westfield, PA she was the daughter of Lawrence and Ada Dunham Outman.  In 1939 she married William Chamberlain who predeceased her.  She later married Lionel Chouinard in Massachusetts.  He predeceased her in 1991.

Mrs. Chouinard was raised in Allegany and worked as a cook in the Olean area, Franklin, Pa., Florida and Massachusetts.  Read the rest of this entry »

Barbara Ann Peterson, of Allegany NY

Barbara Ann Peterson of 4115 S. Nine Mile Road, Lot 99 passed away peacefully Sunday (March 7, 2010) in her home.

Born March 13, 1928, in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Russell Hansel and Evelyn Scott Hansel.  Evelyn later married Edward Schifley, who adopted Barbara at the age of 6.  On February 1, 1947 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Olean she married Carl “Holger” Peterson who survives.

Barbara was a graduate of Portville High School.  For several years she worked in the circulation department of the Bradford Era.  In 1960 Barbara and her husband moved to Houston Texas.  After retirement, they traveled back and forth from Texas to Allegany, permanently moving to Allegany in 2007.  Read the rest of this entry »

Local Gas Expo Sellout; People Coming From Nine States

gasexpologoExhibitor space has sold out and people are registered from nine states for the three-county Natural Gas Expo, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, March 17-18, at the Coudersport Gospel Tabernacle. Helene Nawrocki, executive director of the Potter County Education Council, reported at Tuesday’s Potter County Natural Gas Task Force meeting that interest in the event has come from far and wide. “In terms of gas production, the eyes of the country are on this area,” she noted. There were 70 exhibitor spaces available and more than 100 applications to fill them.

Update on Sherman Street Fire

In the early hours of March 10th, a fire was reported at 57 Sherman Street.  The original post, along with audio of dispatch, can be found here.

The fire is being considered “suspicious”.

A fire dog was brought in from State College, PA, at 4:00 this morning.  The dog was used to aide a State Police Fire Marshall in the investigation.

The structure is reported to be a complete loss, and demolition will probably be necessary.

It is unclear as to who owns the home.
