Catherine J. Jandoli, 90, of Allegany, NY

Catherine J. Jandoli, 90, of 124 Nolan Drive died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in the Bradford Nursing Pavilion, Bradford, PA.

Mrs. Jandoli was born November 26, 1919 in Millburn, N.J., and was a daughter of Peter and Mary Coppola Cianci. She was a graduate of Millburn High School and served for three years during World War II as Pharmacists Mate, First Class, in the WAVES.

Mrs. Jandoli and her late husband, Russell J. Jandoli, moved to this area after their marriage in August 23, 1947 when her husband began teaching at St. Bonaventure University. Once her husband founded the journalism and mass communication program in 1949, now the Russell J. Jandoli School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mrs. Jandoli became his right hand in coordinating hospitality for nationally known speakers at St. Bonaventure University¹s Press Day, now known as communications Day. She was also instrumental in assisting her husband in the development of the Mark Hellinger Awards Program in 1960. Although they never had any children of their own, they claimed the thousands of graduates of the program as theirs. She will be remembered as a quick wit and keen sense of humor.

She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany and a former member of St. Bonaventure University Parish.

Mrs. Jandoli was the last of the seven Cianci brothers and sisters: Nicholas, Angela, Rose, Joseph, Marie, and Francis (Gus). She is survived by a nephew, Nick (Barbara) Cianci of Raleigh, NC.

Friends will be received at the University Chapel on St. Bonaventure campus on Friday May 7, 2010 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm (with wake service at 5 pm). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 10:00 am in the University Chapel. Her pastor, Fr. Richard Husted, O.F.M. will celebrate. Burial will be next to her husband in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
