Miguel Alberto “Mike” Martinez, 76, of 126 South Ave. Bradford, formerly of Burnside Ave. Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 at The Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born July 10, 1933, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico he was a son of the late Alberto and Esperanza (Morciglio) Martinez.
On February 5, 1985, he married Dolores “Lola” (Jacquez) Martinez who died March 24, 2004.
In 1973, he graduated from the Catholic University of Puerto Rico, and also had additional studies at Purdue University. He was employed for the Commonwealth Oil Refinery in Penuelas, Puerto Rico. After moving to California, he was employed as a Social Worker at Los Angeles County Welfare Department in Los Angeles, until his retirement. He enjoyed making paper airplanes, singing, excelled as a sharpshooter and was an avid reader and historian.
Surviving are two daughters: Margarita Martinez-Keyzer-Andre of Dayton OH, and Mildred Martinez- Caballer of FL, a son, Miguel A. Martinez of El Paso TX, three sisters: Alcira Martinez of Pasadena CA, Nora L. Kearns of Bradford, and Ines Thacker of Jamestown, nine grandchildren, Vanessa, Alexandra, Kathiria, Mori, Michael, Adrian, Michael, Jennifer and David; nine great grandchildren,Timmy, Jordan, Natalie, Elizabeth, Anthony, Benjamin, Ava, Mason and Noah; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, and one sister.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in St. Bernard Church with Rev. Leo Gallina, Pastor, as Celebrant and Rev. Leon Canfield, Pastor of First Baptist Church, will also be present at the Mass. Burial will be in Angelus Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles CA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. Memorial contributions if desired may be made to American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, PA 16505.
