James E. Sprague, 82, of Bradford, PA

James E. Sprague, 82, of 585 West Washington St. Bradford, passed away Sunday, June 20th, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born November 16, 1927, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Jesse E. and Anna E. (Neiger) Sprague.

On September 4, 1948 in the Presbyterian Church in Niagara Falls NY, he married Phyllis (Lawrence) Sprague who survives.

He was a 1945 graduate of Bradford High School. On October 25, 1946 he enlisted with the United States Army and was honorably discharged on October 24, 1947. On September 15, 1950 he was recalled to active service and was again honorably discharged September 24, 1951.

After the service Mr. Sprague returned to work at Kendall Refining Co. and worked for over 46 years retiring from Belden & Blake.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and attended the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, he was a member of the Kendall Quarter Century Club, and the Northern Star Lodge #555 F&AM.

Surviving in addition to his wife Phyllis, are three daughters: Danita (David) Hersh of Quarryville PA, Laurie (Mark) Marcello of Palm Harbor FL, and Diana (Ernest) Rankin of Mt. Jewett, three sisters: Mary Jean Sprague and Carolyn Jarrett, both of Bradford, and Geraldine (Bob) Aszbach of Ruckersville VA, one brother, Charles (Donna) Sprague, of Bradford, four grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Sgt. Howard Sprague, and Walter “Peanut” Sprague.

Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday June 22nd, from 3-5pm & 7-9pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. East Main St. and again on Wednesday June 23rd, from Noon to 1:00pm at Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. David Bunnell, Pastor, and Rev. W. LeRoy Beckes, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church co-officiating. Committal services and Military Honors will be accorded in Willow Dale Cemetery.
