Jack M. Wells, 83, formerly of 410 East Main Street, passed away, Sunday, July 11th, 2010 at Bradford Manor.
Born October 24, 1926, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Clyde and Charlotte (Martin) Wells Sr.
On March 24, 1945 in Macon GA. he married Celia C. (Case) Wells who died on October 5, 2003.
Mr. Wells was a 1944 graduate of Bradford High School. On January 18, 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army, and served with the 4018 QM Truck Company and was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945. On November 1,1945 he enlisted to serve with the 494th Military Band at Ft. Richardson Alaska and was honorably discharged December 20,1946. After the service he returned to the area and worked in the family business, Wells Painting and Signs Company for over 60 years.
Aside from his family the biggest love of his life was music. He had his own band for many years and played in many local big bands including, Bob Lucia’s Band, Wes Bowen’s Band, and the Little Civics Band. He also played at weddings and at local nursing homes including Sena Kean Manor and the Pavilion at BRMC. He was awarded the Bravo Award by The Bradford Creative & Performing Arts Center in 1995.
He was a member of the Rotary Club, the Masonic Lodge #334 and the American Federation of Musician’s Local #134 in Jamestown, NY. He was a licensed pilot and loved to fly, he was a member of the McKean County Aviation Association.
Surviving are two children: a daughter, Judy L. (Deidra Kerton) Wells of Lynn, Mass, and a son, David M. (Deana) Wells of Bradford and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers Russell Wells and Clyde Wells, Jr.
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, from 2 to 4pm & 6 to 8pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. East Main St, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 15th at 10:00am with Rev. Max Miller, Pastor of the East End Presbyterian Church officiating. Military Honors and burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
