Thomas A. Vandermark, 61, of 4 Edson Street, Eldred, passed away, Saturday, July 24th, 2010 at the Olean General Hospital.
Born October 16, 1948, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of the late Harry and Helen (Whiteman) Vandermark
On August 3, 1971 he married Susan M. (Patterson) Vandermark who died November 21, 2002.
Mr. Vandermark was a 1966 graduate of Smethport High School. On May 1, 1968 he enlisted in the United States Army, served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged December 5, 1969. He had worked at General Electric building locomotive engines for 26 years
He is survived by a daughter, Tina (Jim) Mertens of Mayville, NY, a son, Brian Vandermark of Erie, a sister, Rose (Dick) Soules of Eldred, five brothers: Joe (Patty) Vandermark of Pittsburgh, Ray (Ruth) Vandermark of Port Allegany, Denny (Kathy) Vandermark of Lebanon, Jerry (Margaret) Vandermark of Cyclone, and Donny (Lu) Vandermark of Smethport, one granddaughter Cassidy Mertens and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 29th, 2010 in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Ave. from Noon to 1:00pm at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Vincent Cieslewicz, pastor of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Smethport officiating. Committal services and military honors will be accorded in Limestone Cemetery.
