Gloria L. Oleksa, 81, of 39 Euclid Ave., passed away, Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 at her residence.
Born November 2, 1928, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Amos and Martha (Yount) Shaffer.
On October 16,1948 in St. Francis Church with Msgr. G. Carlton Ritchie presiding she married Joseph Oleksa who survives.
Mrs. Oleksa was a 1946 graduate of Bradford High School. She had worked at Davis Bakery, Dresser Manufacturing and then in housekeeping for the Doctors Offices at Bradford Hospital.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and had been a volunteer at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.
Mrs. Oleksa enjoyed spending time with her family and with the Euclid Ave. ladies group.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, she is survived by three daughters, Susan (William) Shannon of McKean, PA, Karen (John) Brokaw of Hamburg, NY, and Amy (Jerry) Eberhart of Tega Cay, SC, two sons: Joseph (Ruth) Oleksa of Bradford and Jeffrey (Karen) Oleksa of Stuttgart, Germany, seven sisters, Elizabeth (Ben) Welch of Sunbury, PA, JoAnne Heller of Gaithersburg MD, Marilyn Gross of Bradford, Maureen Shaffer of Bradford, Norma Wells of Bradford, Linda Oden of Mobile, AL, and Carol Steele of Whitmire, SC, a brother, Henry Shaffer of Pittsburgh, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Family will be receiving friends on Sunday, August 1, 2010, from 3-5 & 7-9pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. East Main St. where a prayer service will be held on Monday August 2nd at 9:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis of Assisi Church with Father Samuel B. Slocum as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:00pm Sunday in the funeral home.
