Pitt-Bradford women’s softball ranked 73rd among NCAA Division III softball teams in the nation to earn a National Fastpitch Coaches Association girls got game Team Academic Awards for 2008-09 academic year.
The team had a 3.06 grade point average for the year.
“It is always nice to see the players get recognized for their efforts in the classroom,” said head softball coach Tina Phillips . “Academics are what we emphasize in our program and take pride in along with what we do on the softball field. I am very proud of this team for theirreceiving this recognition.”
In addition, five players earned scholar-athlete awards. To qualify for this award, a student athlete must have at least 3.5 GPA in 2008-09. Those named were Megan Clyde, second base, a sports medicine major from Falls Creek; Elizabeth Courson, outfielder, a biology major from New Castle; Lauren Kinniburgh, catcher, an athletic training major from Smethport; Jillian Kreitzer, pitcher and first base, an elementary education major from Horseheads, N.Y.; and Michelle Kushner, outfielder, an accounting and business management major from McKees Rocks.
It was the third time Clyde had received the award.
Other students on the 2008-09 team are Maggie Dalton, outfielder, an English education major from Jamestown, N.Y.; Lindsey Rice, first base, a broadcast communications major from Elmira Heights, N.Y.; Erin Fieldhouse, third base, a nursing major from Pittsburgh; Lauryn Weaver, catcher, a health and physical education major from Port Matilda; Alex Palumbo, outfielder, a sports medicine major from Commack, N.Y.; Tori Sanchez, third base, a criminal justice major from Aurora, Ohio;
Melissa Allen, pitcher, a health and physical education major from Elkland; Kayla Swartz, pitcher, a pre-radiological science major from Kane; Erikka Rosplock, shortstop and second base, a health and physical education major from Elmira, N.Y.; Kerri Davis, outfielder, a sports medicine major from Stow, Ohio; and LeeAnn Kramer, shortstop and second base, a health and physical education major from Perkasie.
