Anthony J. Grillo, 88, formerly of 86 Main St., Lewis Run, passed away Sunday, April 11th, 2010 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born March 23, 1922, in Clermont, he was a son of the late Carmen and Mary (Falbo) Grillo.
On June 11, 1949 in St. Bernard Church he married Rose (Granata) Grillo who survives.
Mr. Grillo enlisted in the United States Army on November 10, 1942. He served during WW II in the European Theater and was honorably discharged on November 17, 1945.
He formerly worked at the Mt. Jewett Farming Co. in Mt Jewett. After the service he worked at the Hanley Brick Company in Lewis Run, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, a member of the Italian Mutual Aid Society in Lewis Run, and a member of the Bradford Central Christian Ramblers Booster Club. He had volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America and coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball in Lewis Run. He was also a member of the VFW and the McKean County Beagle Club.
Mr. Grillo enjoyed traveling to sporting events of his grandchildren. He was an avid hunter of large and small game and a fisherman. He especially enjoyed working on the family farm in Clermont, PA.
In addition to his wife Rose of 60 years, he is survived by a son, Stephen (Gail) Grillo of Bradford, two grandsons: Matthew Grillo of Bradford, and John Grillo of Denver CO, two sisters: Sarah (the late Marion) DeLucia, and Theresa (the late Carl) Smith all of Emporium, one brother John (Frances) Grillo of St. Louis, MO, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Joseph Grillo.
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, from 3-5 & 7-9pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. East Main St. where a prayer service will be held at 9:30am Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, with Father Samuel B. Slocum, pastor as Celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
