Harold “Jim” E. McCauley, 91, of 315 W. Hemlock Avenue, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at his residence.
Born August 21, 1918, in Deyoung, he was a son of Walter Harold and Florence Evelyn Stroup McCauley. On September 20, 1941, in Kane, he married Rose Debevec who preceded him in death.
He had worked for Kendall Refining for twelve years and Witco for twenty-six years. He belonged to the V.F.W.#1132 and the American Legion Post 250, both in Kane and Bucktail Lodge #96.
During World War II, he served in the Army in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Marksmanship Medal and 5 Bronze Stars.
Surviving are three daughters, Donna Vanham of Jamestown, NY, Barbara McCauley of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Susan Swanson of James City; a son, James McCauley of Warren; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Peterson of Kane and Bertha McMeans of Warren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Shirley Olson, Ilene Irons, Lois Pucheit and Bernice Showers; a granddaughter, Jody Lasecki; and a step granddaughter, Tonya Beilen.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M. with The Rev. David Pflieger officiating. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.
