Victoria Taucher Phillips, 94, formerly of Newark, Delaware, died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Lutheran Home at Kane where she resided.
Born March 2, 1916, in James City, she was a daughter of the late Max and Theresa Ostrouska Taucher. After her father’s death and mother’s remarriage, she became the stepchild of the late Anthony Wallace Sr. She married Leroy D. Phillips in October 1946, in Kane. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Mrs. Phillips was a registered nurse and graduate of St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Erie. She retired from St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE, after many years of service.
During World War II, she served for three years in Europe as an operating room nurse in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, attaining the rank of Captain.
A lifelong devout Roman Catholic, she had contributed to many charities, both religious and secular, over the years.
Surviving are a son, Lee Phillips of Newark, DE; one brother, Anthony Wallace and his wife Marilyn of Kane; three sisters, Helen Taucher, Maxine Taucher and Nellie Rostan and a sister-in-law, Frances Wallace all of Kane; a brother-in-law, Robert Berry in Maryland; a niece and godchild, Theresa Tunall of Kane; a niece, Kathy Rostan of Kane and nephews Joe Rostan of Kane and Gus Rostan of North Carolina; and many other nieces and nephews in many parts of the country.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel Wallace, Max Taucher John Taucher; and two sisters, Theresa Taucher and Mary Taucher.
Friends will be received in the gathering space at St. Callistus Church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. with The Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.
Memorial donations, in memory of Victoria Phillips, may be made to Covenant House, Times Square Station, P.O. Box 731, New York, NY 10108-0900. This is a shelter for homeless children and was one of her favorite charities.
