Questions linger about water meters
OLEAN – As of last week, workers from the J.W. Danforth Co. finished out their contract with the city for installing new electronic water meters.
Allegany County Farmer Knew Frederick Douglass; Was Underground Railroad Agent
In parts 1 and 2: Mark Voorheis, Friendship town historian, has documented an agent of the Underground Railroad by the name of Ethan Lanphear who lived in Allegany County. Mr. Lanphear had connections with the Rev. Jermain Wesley Loguen, an ex-slave who helped more than 1,500 slaves to freedom, and to Frederick Douglass, the famed orator and Underground Railroad â??conductorâ? in Rochester. Mr. Douglass held a lecture tour in Allegany County in 1851, where he likely met Mr. Lanphear.

Cuts at park would save state $171,000
New York State Parks officials are projecting budget savings of $171,000 in Allegany State Park from cuts announced last week, but local officials are concerned about the negative economic impact the cuts could have.
