Forbes magazine has released it’s annual list of the world’s richest people. For the second time since 1995, Bill Gates was pushed out of the top slot.
This year, Carlos Slim Helu, won that honor, with a net worth of $53.5 billion.

Exhibitor space has sold out and people are registered from nine states for the three-county Natural Gas Expo, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, March 17-18, at the Coudersport Gospel Tabernacle. Helene Nawrocki, executive director of the Potter County Education Council, reported at Tuesday’s Potter County Natural Gas Task Force meeting that interest in the event has come from far and wide. “In terms of gas production, the eyes of the country are on this area,” she noted. There were 70 exhibitor spaces available and more than 100 applications to fill them.

With Census Day (April 1) drawing closer, the U.S. Census Bureau of stepped up its hiring of temporary workers to fill various positions. “The part-time jobs offer good pay, good hours, paid training, and the ability to work close to home,” said Potter County Planning Director Charlotte Dietrich, who is heading up the county’s census awareness campaign. Pay ranges from $11.75 hourly for census takers to $13.25 for crew leaders.

SALAMANCA – Waving flags and beating drums, about two-dozen peace walkers marched from Salamanca to Ellicottville on Monday during the third day of their 57-day journey across the state.
Tim Ziaukas, associate professor of public relations in the Department of Communications and the Arts at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, published the lead essay in the current issue of Western Pennsylvania History.
The essay, titled “Still Scary After All These Years: Mr. Yuk Nears 40,” was co-authored with Christopher McCarrick, associate professor of English at Clarion University.

After 40 years with the Bradford City Police Department, Lt. Roger Sager retired on March 1.
PennDOT issues the following travel update for the re-start of the Route 219/Bradford Bypass project in McKean County. This update is for the week of March 8. All work is weather and schedule dependent. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $28 million job.
· The contractor will be setting Traffic Control signs for the project.
· Mid-week, southbound and northbound lanes of Route 219 from Elm Street to Hillside Drive in New York State will be restricted from 2 lanes to I lane in each direction. The passing lanes will be closed for crossover construction. Access on or off Route 219 will not be affected at this time.
· Drivers should use extra caution while entering the construction area from the on-ramp areas. Watch for slow moving and stopped vehicles through the entire work zone and obey posted speed limits.
